SONG MEANINGS

Intro

This introduction was a piece Cameron sent me so long ago, I honestly don’t remember where it originated from. I always thought it was somehow fitting to start the EP with this kind of intro. I looked at it as a bait-and-switch, leading you to believe the outcome to be completely different from what you expected. There was a such a darkness that surrounded the overall energy of this EP. But just as depicted in the artwork, light can always be found in the darkness. And there is a melody to be desired, behind the agony and screams.

Come & Take It

This was the first song title Cameron originally came up with in Sin Seer, I believe… I originally had another title in mind, although I can’t even seem to remember it now that I think about it. Regardless, the concept still remained the same. And to be quite honest, it was rather fitting when it was all said and done. Just one example of the many peculiar occurrences that arose during these sessions.

Silent Convictions could be considered a concept EP in many ways based on the way the concepts interject with one another. It’s that time when you finally look under the rock, and see what’s there. Facing everything that you’ve ever avoided about yourself. And as usual, what you see, you don’t always like. Its then how you respond really speaks to who you are and where your character truly lies…

Come & Take It was me finally exposing that raw nerve of flirting with suicide… Something I’ve done quite a few times in the past. Now I think we’re all guilty of it at some point, but I do believe that there’s different degrees as to where those fantasies derive from. And while it can be difficult admitting it yourself, admitting it to others can seem impossible sometimes, especially those close to you. Once you know, you can never unlearn.

An Empty Vessel

Picking up where “Come and Take It “ left off… An Empty Vessel is the coming down, coming to, and realization of the reality in front of you. While the previous song spoke from a statement of certainty, this song follows with the frustration of remorse. It’s a ponder… In fact, there is some serious food for thought there, if you choose to look at it from another perspective.

Demon Parade

This was a concept I came up with almost a decade ago.. Back in my drug-induced clouded days of youth, I would often spend many nights chain smoking and lyrically riffing on certain themes. Sometimes, I really can’t get over how esoteric concepts are intertwined with the particular events that unfold within this group. I think out of all the songs that were written within the span of 5 or 6 hours, the only one that ever stuck was “Demon Parade”.. Looking back on it, I see how its uncanny that it was a brainchild from a “parade” of thoughts if you will. Art imitates life yet again.

I always loved that title. There was some grit to it. Originally, I had written a demo for one of the other bands I was involved with, but nothing ever came from it. When we were in the middle of demoing out new material for this EP, I felt like the music fit the concept to a T, so I just ran with it. It’s such a different kind of song, structurally speaking… There’s a lot of different elements going on there.

I think it when it comes down to it, we all just want stability. Especially in those moments of adversity. Demons have a tendency to run rampant at times.. I find instead of taking them all on yourself… become them and lead them yourself. Take back control. The inmates no longer run the asylum anymore.
